U.S. Probes Possible Chinese Hack into FBI Surveillance Network, Says WSJ

A new cybersecurity scare is unfolding in Washington. According to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. investigators suspect that Chinese state‑linked hackers may have breached an internal FBI network connected to domestic surveillance operations.

While the full scope of the intrusion remains under investigation, early reports suggest the attack targeted a non‑classified system containing sensitive data on individuals under federal monitoring. The FBI detected the suspicious activity in mid‑February and immediately launched a joint probe with the NSA and the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity Agency.

The incident—described by officials as “highly sophisticated”—has raised fresh concerns about U.S.–China cyber tensions, just as both nations wrestle with growing mistrust over technology and security. The FBI has declined to comment, and the Chinese Embassy in Washington has not yet responded.

If confirmed, this breach would mark one of the most serious cybersecurity incidents involving a key U.S. intelligence agency in recent years.
