Netanyahu to Undergo Prostate Surgery After Secret Cancer Treatment

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu will undergo prostate surgery this week, shortly after his office disclosed that he had been treated months ago for early‑stage prostate cancer. According to the official statement, the radiotherapy he received was “completely successful,” eliminating a small localized lesion discovered during a routine follow‑up exam.

The medical report released by his cabinet explains that the cancer was found accidentally during tests related to a benign prostate condition. Further examinations confirmed that the tumor was confined to the prostate and showed no signs of metastasis. Doctors presented two treatment options: close monitoring or a short, targeted course of radiotherapy. Netanyahu chose the latter, and physicians say the treatment achieved full remission.

His office stated that the publication of his medical information was delayed for two months to avoid releasing it during an active conflict, citing concerns that hostile actors could exploit the news for propaganda purposes.

Despite the positive outcome of the radiotherapy, Netanyahu is scheduled to undergo a radical prostatectomy at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. The surgery is expected to require several days of hospitalization. As a result, court hearings related to his ongoing corruption trial have been postponed to allow for his recovery.

The procedure, which involves removing the prostate gland entirely, is a common preventive measure following the detection of prostate cancer, even when initial treatments appear successful. It aims to eliminate any remaining risk of recurrence and provide long‑term medical certainty.
