China Voices ‘Serious Concern’ Over EU’s Proposed Industrial Accelerators Act

Beijing has expressed “grave concern” over the European Union’s proposed Industrial Accelerators Act (IAA), a legislative initiative aiming to strengthen local manufacturing and reduce dependence on foreign suppliers—particularly in strategic sectors such as batteries, electric vehicles, solar energy, and critical raw materials.

In a statement released on Friday, China’s Ministry of Commerce said it is closely monitoring the legislative process and will assess the potential impact on Chinese enterprises. The ministry emphasized that Beijing will firmly defend the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies affected by the new European measures.

The EU’s Industrial Accelerators Act, unveiled earlier this week, seeks to bolster Europe’s industrial autonomy by imposing stricter local content requirements and limiting foreign investment in sensitive technologies. However, Beijing views the proposal as a move that could disrupt global supply chains and undermine fair market competition.

This latest exchange underscores growing trade tensions between China and the EU, as both economies navigate the balance between economic security and open-market principles in a rapidly shifting global landscape.
